Do You Need a Screen Protector on an iPhone 17?

In short

Not strictly, but most people should use one. Every iPhone 17 model has a Ceramic Shield 2 front with an anti-reflective coating, which resists everyday scratches better than older iPhones. It can still crack in a hard drop, and a replacement screen costs far more than a protector. The trade-off: a glass protector covers Apple's anti-reflective coating, so you'll see a little more glare.

Is the iPhone 17 screen strong enough without a protector?

For scratches, it's the toughest iPhone front yet: Apple uses Ceramic Shield 2 on the iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. For drops, no phone glass is unbreakable.

If you never drop your phone and keep it in its own pocket, going bare is reasonable. If you drop it, keep it with keys, or work outdoors, a protector is cheap insurance against a screen replacement.

Does a screen protector ruin the iPhone 17's anti-reflective coating?

It covers it. The coating is on Apple's glass, and a standard glass protector sits on top, so reflections look like an ordinary phone screen again.

Most people don't notice indoors. If glare outdoors bothers you, choose a high-clarity glass and keep it clean.

Which screen protector fits my iPhone 17?

One made for your exact model. The 17 and 17 Pro are both 6.3 inches but are different phones, and the 17 Pro Max is 6.9 inches. Check the listing before you buy.

Should I get a privacy screen protector?

If you use your phone on trains, in cafés or at work and don't want people reading over your shoulder, yes. The trade-off is a slightly darker screen.

For iPhone 17 and 17 Pro there's the Privacy 9H Tempered Glass. Read privacy, clear or matte to compare.

Do I need a camera lens protector too?

If your case doesn't have a raised lip around the cameras, it's worth it, because the lens covers sit proud of the back. A cracked lens cover means a camera lens repair.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Does Ceramic Shield 2 mean I don't need a screen protector?

It means fewer scratches, not no cracks. A protector still takes the hit in a drop and is far cheaper to replace than the screen.

Q: Will an iPhone 16 Pro screen protector fit the iPhone 17 Pro?

Some glass is made to fit both; the listing will say so (for example "iPhone 16 Pro / 17 / 17 Pro"). Don't assume it does unless it's listed.

Q: Glass or film?

Tempered glass feels like the screen and spreads impact better. Film is thinner but scratches more easily.

Q: Can you fit it for me?

Yes, we offer screen protector installation at our Warringal kiosk. Ask about the fitting price when you buy.
